Conductor missing after derailed freight train tumbles into Quebec river

The Iron Ore Company has confirmed that the locomotive of train they use for transportation has been found submerged in water after a derailment.

The train’s conductor is unaccounted for.

The Quebec North Shore & Labrador (QNSL) train was travelling from Sept-Îles to Labrador City when it was hit by a landslide. The locomotive and up to seven cars left the tracks and tumbled down an embankment.

In a statement, the company wrote

“The Conductor is unaccounted for and his family has been notified. Our first priority is locating our employee,” the company wrote in a statement. “We are deeply committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees and will continue to provide updates as details become available.”

Police and emergency workers are travelling on all-terrain vehicles to the site of the freight train derailment north of Sept-Îles.
